A tragic accident at Obretima, near Akyem Apedwa in the Eastern Region, has left seven people dead and around 25 others injured. The incident took place early on Saturday, September 21, 2024.
David Osafo Adonteng, the Director-General of the National Road Safety Authority (NSRA), confirmed the news during the midday broadcast on Adom FM. According to Mr. Adonteng, the collision involved a VIP bus and a diesel tanker, which were traveling towards each other.
The accident was triggered when a tyre on the fuel tanker, en route from Accra to Kumasi, burst. This caused the tanker to swerve into the lane of the VIP bus, which was heading from Tamale to Accra.
Emergency services responded promptly, working to free passengers who were trapped in the wreckage. The injured victims were transported to Suhum Government Hospital for urgent medical care.
