The Director General of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), Professor Amin Alhassan, said GBC made $105,000 in total from the coverage of the All African Games. He said that nothing further had been given to GBC as benefits, other than the $105,000.
In an interview, the Director General stated that the $100,000 payment was made in favor of GBC’s decision to dedicate its GTV Sports Plus channel to the African Games. Mustapha Ussif, the Minister of Youth and Sports, had stated that the government had given the national broadcaster, GBC, $3 million to cover the 2023 African Games, which were scheduled for February 2024 in Accra.
In his appearance at the Public Accounts Committee on Monday, August 19, 2024, Mr. Ussif stated that the money was sent to the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), the official broadcaster of the Games. This came about as a result of his request to split the funding allotted for the coverage from Sam George, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ningo Prampram. Some of the technicians who worked at the African Games reportedly alleged that they were still unpaid, according to Sam George.
