Alan Kyerematen, leader of the Movement for Change and its presidential candidate, has unveiled an ambitious plan to revolutionize Ghana’s creative industry as part of his Great Transformational Plan (GTP).
At the heart of this initiative is the Creative Arts Development Fund (CADF), a program designed to provide financial and technical support to creative talents across the country. The initiative aims to empower individuals to unlock their potential and contribute significantly to Ghana’s economy.
Kwame Owusu Danso (KOD), Kyerematen’s running mate, emphasized the importance of this fund, describing it as a game-changer for aspiring creatives.
“The Creative Arts Development Fund will equip musicians, poets, comedians, and artisans with the resources they need to nurture and promote their craft,” KOD stated in a release to the Ghana News Agency.
Drawing on his personal experiences as a musician, KOD highlighted how access to funding could alleviate many of the struggles that creatives face early in their careers.
The fund’s dual focus on financial assistance and technical support will empower young talents to launch their careers while boosting Ghana’s creative economy both locally and internationally.
Part of a Broader Youth Empowerment Agenda
Alan Kyerematen’s plan is part of a broader youth empowerment agenda under his 10-point vision. The Creative Arts Development Fund seeks to tackle long-standing challenges in the creative sector, such as limited financing, inadequate infrastructure, and weak intellectual property protections.
By addressing these barriers, Kyerematen believes Ghana’s creative industry can grow to rival global powerhouses like Nigeria, significantly contributing to the country’s GDP.
“This fund is about much more than financial aid,” Kyerematen explained. “It’s about equipping our youth with the tools, mentorship, and networks they need to turn their creative talents into thriving businesses.”
Reviving Ghana’s Film Industry
A key priority of the fund is revitalizing Ghana’s film industry, which has struggled in recent years. Alan sees cinema as a vital tool for economic growth and cultural preservation.
The fund will support local filmmakers by providing resources and infrastructure to produce high-quality African content capable of competing on the global stage. This initiative aims to establish Ghana as a leading hub for African film production.
Celebrating Ghanaian Culture Globally
The GTP envisions a creative arts sector that not only fosters national pride but also bridges generational gaps. By supporting music, art, comedy, poetry, and film, the initiative seeks to connect younger Ghanaians with their heritage while promoting Ghanaian culture worldwide.
To ensure sustainability, the fund will be accompanied by legal and policy reforms. These include stronger intellectual property protections and incentives for international collaborations, enabling Ghanaian artists to safeguard their work and access global markets.
“Our creative talents are world-class,” Kyerematen stated. “With the right support, they can lead in shaping Africa’s cultural narrative and contribute significantly to our economy.”
A Call to Action for Ghana’s Youth
Kyerematen urged young creatives to rally behind his vision for transformation. “This is about more than just financial support—it’s about empowering our youth to realize their dreams and make meaningful contributions to Ghana’s growth,” he said.
With the Creative Arts Development Fund, Ghana’s creative industry stands at the threshold of a new era, ready to inspire the world and transform lives at home.
