Supporters of Alan Kyerematen Defect to NPP Ahead of 2024 Elections

In a significant political shift, over 100 supporters of Alan Kyerematen Movement for Change have officially defected to the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) as the 2024 general elections approach.

During a press conference held in Cape Coast, the group expressed their reasons for leaving the Movement for Change, citing the NPP’s impressive developmental projects across the country as a key factor influencing their decision.

Having previously campaigned for Alan Kyerematen during the presidential primaries, the group now believes that the NPP’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has a stronger chance of securing victory in the upcoming elections. Francis Edzie, the leader of the group and now the polling station secretary for the NPP in the Twi-Ndzi-Twi Jejem Electoral Area, highlighted that they have heeded the calls from the national campaign team of Bawumia.

He further quoted former President John Kofi Agyekum Kufuor, saying, “It is better to be a messenger in a ruling party than to be a general secretary in a position party”. Edzie concluded by highlighting the numerous developmental projects undertaken by the NPP during its nearly eight years in office and expressed a desire for the party to continue its progress rather than support an opposition party that lacks direction.

This defection signals a potential shift in support for the NPP as it gears up for the critical 2024 elections. With a growing base of supporters and a focus on development, the NPP aims to strengthen its position and enhance its chances of retaining power.
