Ghanaian defender Alidu Seidu of Stade Rennais F.C. is facing a major setback after suffering a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee during Rennes’ Ligue 1 match against Lille on Sunday.
The injury, which occurred in the 18th minute, forced the 24-year-old to leave the field in tears. Rennes confirmed the ACL injury on Monday, although they did not provide a specific recovery timeline.
Typically, ACL injuries require several months of rehabilitation, meaning Seidu is likely to miss the rest of the season. The injury to Alidu Seidu is a significant blow for Stade Rennais, who are already struggling under new coach Jorge Sampaoli. The team currently sits 15th in the Ligue 1 standings, just one point above the relegation zone, marking their worst points tally at this stage of the season since 2002.
Seidu, known for his defensive skills and versatility, has been a key player for both Rennes and the Ghana national team. His absence is expected to further complicate Rennes’ efforts to turn around their season.
The club has yet to announce how they will address the gap left by Seidu’s injury. However, both fans and teammates have expressed their support, sending messages of encouragement as the 24-year-old begins his rehabilitation.
