The Electoral Commission (EC) has declared that all temporary employees working on the voter registration drive and the next elections will receive daily pay of between GH¢130 and GH¢2,000. A document dated August 14, 2024, and signed by the Deputy Chairman responsible for Corporate Services states that Supervisors will be paid GH¢2,000, Deputy Supervisors GH¢1,800, and Exhibition Officers GH¢130 a day. The memo is distributed to all Regional Directors.
The document further specified the compensation for election-related tasks: GH¢7,000 will be given to Returning Officers, GH¢6,000 to Deputy Returning Officers, GH¢2,500 to Technicians, GH¢800 to Presiding Officers, GH¢600 to Name Reference Officers, GH¢600 to Verification Officers, and GH¢600 to Ballot Issuers. The EC made it clear that, in 2024, Returning Officers and Deputies will receive separate compensation for tasks like registration, transfers, proxy voting, compiling the special voters register, and hiring of officials, in contrast to prior years when they received a set amount for all election-related activities.
