According to plans released by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), 2,000 new lamps will be installed around the Accra metropolitan area, by August 25. This is to address worries about streetlight malfunctions that could endanger people’s safety. This declaration was made on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, during the Public Financial Management Town Hall Meeting in Accra. The purpose of the meeting was to give an update on government projects that the Assembly has been working on since 2017.
Speaking outside the occasion, AMA Mayor Elizabeth Naa Kwatsoe Tawiah Sackey agreed that there is a problem with broken streetlights but gave locals hope that the new fixtures will improve safety at night. The Mayor of the AMA highlighted the organization’s dedication to effectively using tax dollars to raise the standard of living for locals, outlining a number of initiatives put into place since 2017. These projects include building a two-unit kindergarten block for Bubiashie 1 Basic School, a three-story, eighteen-unit classroom complex for the Independence Avenue Cluster of Schools, and a daycare facility in Old Fadama.
She also cited the allocation of 2,850 twin desks to the city’s public basic schools and Accra’s nomination as the 2023 World Book Capital in an effort to encourage reading. The purpose of the gathering, which included local government representatives, community leaders, and regional CEOs, was to provide an update on the government initiatives overseen by the Assembly. In addition, Madam Sackey asked citizens to keep backing the administration, restating the Assembly’s commitment to enhancing city living standards.
