Angola’s head coach, Pedro Gonçalves, is fully committed to securing a victory against Ghana in their upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier, aiming to bring pride to Angola. Although Angola has already booked its place in the AFCON tournament, Gonçalves sees Friday’s Matchday 5 showdown with the Black Stars, scheduled for November 15 at the Estádio 11 de Novembro, as a critical opportunity.
Gonçalves previously led the Palancas Negras to a narrow 1-0 victory over Ghana in their Group F opener at the Baba Yara Stadium, and he’s determined to replicate that success against Otto Addo’s team.
Acknowledging the depth of talent in Ghana’s lineup, featuring top players across European leagues, including Portugal, Gonçalves noted Ghana’s recent struggles and Angola’s intention to capitalize on this period of transition.
“Ghana has incredible players in Europe and even here in Portugal,” Gonçalves said. “But they’re going through a difficult phase right now. Otto Addo is working hard to lift the team, but the current circumstances make it tough. It’s a pity, but this is part of football.”
He emphasized Angola’s positive momentum and the team’s intent to play fearlessly. “We’re in good form, and we approach each game with a goal to win, to honor our country, and to enjoy the competition. That’s our philosophy. We will show courage on the pitch and aim to overcome one of Africa’s strongest teams on Friday.”
Following the clash with Ghana, Angola will wrap up their Group F journey with a fixture against Sudan on November 18, set to take place in Togo.
