NRSA To Launch Monitoring App to Combat Reckless Driving

The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) is introducing a new monitoring app designed to simplify the reporting of reckless driving incidents in Ghana. In 2023, the country experienced 14,135 road crashes, resulting in 2,276 fatalities and leaving 15,409 individuals injured.

During the NRSA’s 25th anniversary celebration in Accra, acting Board Chairman Mr. Jeremaine Nkrumah emphasized the urgent need for the app to address the alarming statistics and urged drivers to remain vigilant. The anniversary event was themed “25 years of promoting road safety and awarding excellence.”

Despite a slight decrease in road accidents this year, Nkrumah highlighted that the death toll remains distressingly high.

He pointed out that most fatalities involve commercial vehicles and called for heightened caution among drivers to help mitigate these tragic losses. A chart presented during the event illustrated a minor reduction in accidents over the years.

While acknowledging improvements due to increased public education, Chief Director at the Transport Ministry, Mabel Sagoe, stressed the importance of innovative, data-driven strategies to further reduce road incidents. She mentioned key initiatives such as the ‘Arrive Alive Stay Alive’ campaign, the Ghana transport project, and a digital platform for commercial transport groups.
