Ayomide Adeleye, a 300-level Philosophy student at Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ogun State, has been arrested in connection with the abduction and alleged murder of Christiannah Idowu, a student at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB). The horrifying incident has sparked outrage on social media, with Nigerians demanding justice and swift prosecution of the suspect.
Reports reveal that 23-year-old Ayomide has confessed to the crime. Christiannah was reported missing on August 19, 2024, after her parents received messages from her abductors via her WhatsApp account. The kidnappers sent distressing photos of her in captivity and demanded a ransom of N1.5 million. Christiannah’s parents managed to gather N350,000, which they deposited into a betting account provided by the kidnappers.
Following the ransom payment, communication ceased, and further investigation by law enforcement led to the discovery that the bank account used for the ransom was linked to Ayomide. The funds were traced through bank transfers, and intelligence operatives confirmed his involvement using bank verification details (BVN).
Hudenyin in a message he shared on his X handle wrote: “23-year-old Ayomide Adeleye has been handed over to #LagosPoliceNG by 9 Brigade #HQNigerianArmy. The handover took place today, September 5, 2024, at about 1400hrs. The investigation is ongoing”.
