Nineteen Arrested Democracy Hub Protesters Remanded in Custody

Nineteen individuals arrested during the Democracy Hub demonstration have been remanded into police custody for two weeks. The arrests took place on Sunday, September 22, after violent clashes broke out between protesters and police at the 37 Intersection in Accra.

In total, 44 people were detained, including some event organizers. The accused pleaded not guilty to charges of unlawful assembly, unlawful damage, assault on a police officer, and conspiracy to commit a crime. They appeared before Circuit Court 6.

Given the large number of defendants, their pleas are being processed in batches across two circuit courts, Court 6 and Court 10. On Tuesday, September 24, 10 individuals were remanded, followed by nine more protesters being taken into custody shortly after.
