Repair work on the Atomic Flyover, located on the N4, also known as the Legon-Adenta Road, is progressing steadily as efforts continue to fix the exposed expansion joints. The portion of the road between Atomic Junction and Legon, which had been closed from Friday to Sunday, has now been reopened during peak hours to ease traffic flow.
The Ghana Highways Authority, which is overseeing the project, announced a temporary closure and traffic diversion for the Atomic Junction overpass from October 3 to 22, 2024. The closure will occur between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. daily to facilitate the necessary repairs. These measures aim to restore the overpass by addressing the exposed joints, ensuring safer driving conditions.
When the Daily Graphic visited the site on Monday, significant progress had been made, with workers filling the gaps in the expansion joints. These joints, which had been badly exposed, are vital to maintaining a smooth surface for vehicles. However, it remains unclear whether the metal coverings of the joints were deliberately removed or simply came off on their own. Their absence had caused discomfort for drivers, who were forced to slow down to avoid potential damage to their tyres.
With work continuing through mid-October, the Ghana Highways Authority remains committed to completing the repairs and improving the safety of the heavily trafficked road.
