Ghanaian striker Jordan Ayew played the hero for Leicester City as they staged a thrilling 3-2 comeback victory over Southampton at St. Mary’s Stadium on Saturday.
Returning to club action after Ghana’s disappointing performances in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers, Ayew delivered a last-minute winner in stoppage time, capping off a dramatic recovery for the Foxes, who had been two goals down.
Southampton appeared to be in control in the first half, with Cameron Archer and Joe Aribo scoring to give the Saints a comfortable lead before halftime.
Leicester’s fightback began in the 64th minute when Facundo Buonanotte pulled one back, assisted by fellow Ghanaian Abdul Fatawu Issahaku. The momentum continued as Jamie Vardy leveled the score from the penalty spot in the 74th minute.
The decisive moment came deep into injury time when Ayew, who joined Leicester in the summer, slotted home his first goal for the club after a clever pass from Harry Winks. His late strike sealed a memorable victory for the visitors and marked his maiden goal in seven Premier League appearances for the Foxes.
Both Ayew and Issahaku made crucial contributions after coming off the bench following their international duties, providing a spark that turned the tide in Leicester’s favor.
Leicester City will now look to build on this momentum when they host Nottingham Forest at the King Power Stadium on Friday, October 25.
