The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Bagbin, has departed for Australia to attend the 67th Conference of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) International, scheduled to take place in Sydney, New South Wales, from November 3 to November 8, 2024.
Mr. Bagbin heads a Ghanaian delegation that includes former Majority Leader and Member of Parliament for Suame, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, both House Leaders, two Whips, the Clerk to Parliament, and other officials from the Parliamentary Service. This information was shared in an October 30 press release issued by the Public Affairs Sub-division of the Parliamentary Service.
The release further disclosed that as the Immediate Past President of CPA International, Speaker Bagbin will formally hand over to the newly elected President, the Speaker of the Parliament of New South Wales, Australia, during the conference.
In a statement, Speaker Bagbin noted that he plans to return to Ghana earlier than expected to address a request from Members of Parliament for an early recall of Parliament. He confirmed that his office has already initiated steps to convene the House in early November. Recently, Speaker Bagbin was also elected to a second term as President of the Conference of Speakers and Presidents of African Legislatures.
