The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has dismissed recent media reports suggesting that the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is facing bankruptcy, labeling them as inaccurate. PURC clarified that these claims misattributed warnings of ECG’s financial distress to its Executive Secretary, Dr. Ishmael Ackah.
In a statement from its commissioners, PURC confirmed that it had not issued any warnings regarding ECG’s financial status. The Commission emphasized that the reports circulating on September 18 were incorrect and misrepresented its position.
These claims stemmed from various media outlets alleging that PURC had expressed concerns over ECG’s financial crisis, suggesting a potential collapse. However, PURC clarified that any concerns regarding ECG’s finances originated in a letter from ECG’s management to the presidency and the Minister of Energy. The Commission urged the public to seek accurate information and avoid relying on misleading reports.
