Barcelona’s lead at the top of La Liga was threatened after they were held to a dramatic 2-2 draw by Celta Vigo, with the match ending in chaotic fashion following Marc Casado’s red card.
Barcelona captain Raphinha opened the scoring with his 13th goal of the season, driving into the box and finishing expertly. Despite their dominance, Celta Vigo remained a constant threat, and had a strong penalty appeal waved away just before halftime. Iago Aspas went down in the box following a challenge from Gerard Martin, who had already been booked, but the referee did not award a penalty. Aspas was subsequently shown a yellow card for protesting the decision.
Barcelona appeared to be in control when Raphinha, who also hit the post in the match, turned provider for Robert Lewandowski, whose 15th La Liga goal looked to seal the win.
However, things took a dramatic turn in the final stages. Marc Casado was shown a second yellow card in the 82nd minute, leaving Barcelona a man down. Celta Vigo quickly capitalized, with Alfon Gonzalez pulling one back just two minutes later. Then, in the 86th minute, Hugo Alvarez struck to level the score, securing a hard-earned point for Celta.
With the draw, Barcelona’s lead at the top of La Liga remains at five points, but Real Madrid can cut it to four if they win their match against Leganes on Sunday.
