The grand finale of the 2024 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) took place at the New Examination Center at the University of Cape Coast, with Mfantsipim School, Keta Senior High School, and St. Augustine’s College competing for the top prize.
This year’s competition was hosted in Cape Coast, known as Ghana’s educational hub, where formal schooling in the country began with the historic Philip Quaque School in the former capital of the Gold Coast.
With two Central Region schools in the finals, the region held onto the hope of winning on home soil, rallying with the motto, “host and win.” In a thrilling battle, Mfantsipim School narrowly edged out St. Augustine’s College, clinching the title with a score of 47 to 46. This victory marked Mfantsipim’s third NSMQ win, adding to their 2014 and 1999 triumphs.
In recognition of the finalists’ achievements, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia provided a prize package of GH¢60,000. Each finalist school received GH¢10,000, while their dedicated trainers were awarded GH¢5,000 each, with an additional GH¢5,000 going to each school.
The Central Regional Minister, Mrs. Justina Marigold Assan, presented the prizes on behalf of Dr. Bawumia, honoring the contestants and schools for their excellent performances in the competition.
