Benard Mornah, the disqualified flagbearer of the People’s National Convention (PNC), has reaffirmed his determination to contest his disqualification by the Electoral Commission (EC) from the December 7 presidential election. During a courtesy visit to National Chief Imam His Eminence Sheikh Osman Nuhu Shaributu, Mornah expressed that the EC’s actions could potentially lead the country into chaos.
Accompanied by regional and national executive members of the PNC, the delegation conveyed to the Chief Imam their concerns over what they deemed an “injustice” perpetrated by the Electoral Commission. Mornah stated, “We want to draw the Electoral Commission’s attention to a looming danger. While the PNC will not resort to violence, certain attitudes by the Commission have the potential to plunge this country into a state of calamity.”
This marks the first time since 1992 that the PNC has been disqualified from participating in national elections. Benard Mornah is currently in court seeking a ruling to reinstate him in the presidential race, with a verdict expected on Monday, October 7, from an Accra High Court.
In addition, Benard Mornah has called for a revision of the laws governing elections to prevent the Electoral Commission from imposing filing fees on prospective candidates aiming to lead the country.
