President Joe Biden praised Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign after she formally conceded the presidential race to Donald Trump on Wednesday.
In a statement following Harris’s concession speech at Howard University in Washington, D.C., Biden called her “a remarkable partner and dedicated public servant, embodying integrity, courage, and character.”
Biden had exited the race just a few months before Election Day amid growing concerns about his age and fitness, which allowed Harris to lead the Democratic Party’s campaign as its presidential nominee.
On Wednesday, Biden acknowledged the “exceptional challenges” Harris faced and praised the “clear vision” of her “groundbreaking campaign.”
“As I’ve said before, selecting Kamala as my running mate in 2020 was my first decision as the nominee—and the best decision I made,” Biden wrote on X. “Her story mirrors the best of America’s story, and as she stated today, I know she’ll continue to make history.”
Biden’s comments echoed Harris’s own words from her concession speech, where she encouraged Democrats to keep pushing forward without losing hope.
“She will continue fighting with purpose, determination, and joy. She will always be a champion for every American,” Biden added. “Most importantly, she will be a leader for future generations, inspiring our children as she shapes America’s path forward.”
