The Black Princesses have been eliminated from the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup after Argentina triumphed on Sunday evening that eliminated Ghana. Ghana had been aspiring to qualify to the knockout stage as amongst the best third placed teams after the final group match against New Zealand.
But, any chances of moving to the next level were brought down by Argentina’s victory over Costa Rica. Before their match, the third-placed teams of Mexico, Canada as well as South Korea each had amassed four points while Argentina had only one point. Argentina again got a first half opener as they defended to the end to get the three points, this put them on four points and effectively knocked out Ghana.
Even before the coronavirus outbreak, Ghana’s campaign under head coach Yussif Basigi had been low, Ghana had lost both of their games to Austria and Japan. A victory on the New Zealand team would have only given Ghana three points which are not enough to qualify the team.
It was the seventh successive elimination of Ghana in the group phase of the tournament since the year 2012, and which has been their performing records in the competition.
