2025 AFCONQ: Black Stars to depart for Libya on Sunday for Sudan clash

The Black Stars will depart Ghana on Sunday for Libya, where they are set to face Sudan in the second leg of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

This fixture comes as part of the team’s ongoing AFCON qualification campaign, which features a critical doubleheader against the Sudanese side. The first leg, played at the Accra Sports Stadium on Thursday, ended in a goalless draw, despite the Black Stars’ dominance on the field. The result has heightened the stakes for the second leg, as Ghana sits third in Group F with just two points from two games, placing added pressure on head coach Otto Addo and his squad.

In preparation for Tuesday’s crucial encounter, the team will hold their final training session at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday, October 12, before traveling to Libya. Upon arrival, the Black Stars will conduct a mandatory training session at the Martyrs of February Stadium on Monday, the day before the pivotal Matchday 4 clash.

Ghana will be aiming for a much-needed victory against Sudan to boost their chances of qualifying for the AFCON tournament in Morocco next year. Kick-off for the second leg is scheduled for 13:00 GMT on Tuesday, October 14.

PROGRAM OUTLINE AHEAD OF LIBYA TRIP

Head coach Otto Addo and his team will need to deliver a strong performance to secure the win, especially as Sudan, led by Kwesi Appiah, will be equally determined to claim their first victory in the qualifiers.
