The Black Stars existed before all of you – Kurt Okraku to Black Stars Players

Kurt Okraku, the President of the Ghana Football Association, has urged the Black Stars to elevate their performance, emphasizing the team’s rich legacy that predates their own existence.

The four-time African champions have had a challenging start to their 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, suffering a 1-0 defeat to Angola at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium and drawing 1-1 against Niger in Morocco. As a result, the Black Stars currently sit third in their group, with only one point to show for their efforts.

As the team gears up for their crucial doubleheader against Sudan in Matchdays three and four, Okraku addressed the players on Tuesday, encouraging them to rise above their disappointing start.

“In 1957, Ghana achieved independence through the bravery of individuals who faced challenges head-on,” he noted, drawing a parallel to the current situation. “That same resilience is needed now.”

He went on to reference key players like Mohammed Kudus and Alexander Djiku, reminding them, “The Black Stars existed long before you were born. Now, the question is, what will you do with the opportunity before you?”

The Black Stars will face Sudan in the first leg of their doubleheader on Thursday, October 10, at 16:00 GMT, before heading to Libya for the return match on Monday, October 14, at the Martyrs of February Stadium.
