To increase students’ potential for economic development, the Cabinet has approved the introduction of the Gifted and Talented Education System (GATE) program at a few schools. Learners with extraordinary aptitudes, skills, and potential for success who need specific accommodations to achieve their educational goals will be served by the GATE program. Children with extraordinary accomplishments or promise in areas like high IQ, particular aptitudes, innovative thinking, amazing talent in the artistic and performing arts, innate leadership, and exceptional performance in athletics or mechanical abilities will be recognized and assisted.
The goal is to place the nation on par with other nations that have greatly profited from the discoveries and breakthroughs made by its gifted and talented students, such the United States of America (USA), Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Singapore. Thousands of bright and talented kids in the nation needed support to help change the economy, according to Minister of Education Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, who made this announcement on the sidelines of the Accra College of Education’s 60th anniversary celebration.
Dr. Adutwum, stated that there were 513,098–855,163 gifted and talented youngsters in the nation’s pre-tertiary education system (six to ten percent) who were eligible for GATE Services. Ghana’s GATE program, according to the Minister of Education and Ashanti Region Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe, would be introduced gradually and span kindergarten, primary, junior high, and senior high schools. The Ghanaian method, according to Dr. Adutwum, will start with the new schools that will be called GATE Schools and subsequently expand to incorporate other stages of the regular school system.
