The Lionesses of Cameroon have made a remarkable debut in the 2024 U-20 World Cup, advancing to the last 16 after a 2-0 victory over Australia on Friday night in Bogotá.
Achta Toko and captain Naomi Eto were the stars of the match, each finding the back of the net to secure Cameroon’s place in the knockout stage on their first attempt.
Following a draw in their opening match and a narrow loss to hosts Colombia, Cameroon needed a decisive win in their final group game. Their triumph over Australia placed them third in Group A but ranked them second among the best third-placed teams, earning them a spot in the round of 16 with four points from three games.
Cameroon’s impressive run continues as they look forward to their next challenge in the tournament.
