President Akufo-Addo is set to launch his campaign for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 presidential election on Wednesday, October 2, 2024. He will be joined by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, his running mate Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, and all NPP parliamentary candidates across the 276 constituencies.
The campaign will kick off in the Upper East and Upper West Regions and is expected to last about 65 days, culminating in the presidential and parliamentary elections on December 7, 2024. According to sources familiar with the itinerary, the President plans to visit all 16 regions of the country before the elections.
On Thursday, October 3, 2024, President Akufo-Addo will temporarily depart for official assignments in France and Germany but will resume his regional campaign upon his return.
As he gears up for this campaign, President Akufo-Addo is focused on facilitating a smooth transition of power, aiming to hand the presidency to Vice President Bawumia. The two have collaborated in four consecutive elections (2008, 2012, 2016, and 2020), winning in 2016 and 2020 but facing defeats in 2008 and 2012.
Meanwhile, Vice President Bawumia and Dr. Prempeh have been actively campaigning in their respective constituencies. Currently, Bawumia is engaging voters in the Western Region, while Dr. Prempeh is working to garner support in the Ashanti Region.
