The current member of parliament for Suhum, Kwadwo Asante, also referred to as Boafo, has announced his intention to run as an independent Candidate. This comes after Frank Asiedu Bekoe, popularly known as Protozoa, defeated him in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primaries.
Many NPP party members in the constituency encouraged him to run as an independent candidate despite his loss. Top party figures responded by attempting to convince him to change his mind, including Agriculture Minister Bryan Acheampong and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
But after months of conjecture, Boafo announced on Sunday, September 1st, that he will be running as an independent. Speaking to a sizable contingent of supporters following a health walk at the Suhum Amponsah Market, he declared that he was answering the demand of his constituents to carry on his community development efforts.
