The Judicial Service of Ghana (JSG) has announced that the Cases regarding the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and the Ghanaian Family Values Bill, commonly referred to as the Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill, are not yet ready for hearing at the Supreme Court.
The cases involve defendants Richard Sky, Amanda Odoi, and Rockson-Nelson Etse K. Dafeamekpor. In a statement released on October 8, 2024, the JSG indicated that the current status of all three cases, as assessed between October 3 and 7, reveals that the defendants have not yet filed their statements of the case. Furthermore, the JSG noted that neither individual nor joint memoranda of issues have been submitted.
This delay suggests that the legal proceedings related to the contentious bill will not advance until the necessary documentation is completed. The lack of filings raises questions about the timeline for resolving these cases, which have drawn significant public attention and debate.
As the situation evolves, stakeholders and the public will be closely monitoring the developments surrounding the Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill and its implications for human rights in Ghana.
