The Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) has issued a warning that it may reinstate its industrial action due to the government’s ongoing failure to meet the association’s demands.
In August, CETAG suspended a two-month strike after government assurances that its members would be transitioned to the public universities’ salary structure by the end of October 2024. However, with the deadline approaching and no progress reported, CETAG has expressed frustration, accusing the government of failing to honor its commitments and disregarding the concerns of its members.
In a statement released on Monday, October 28, CETAG President Prince Obeng-Himah cautioned that the association’s patience is wearing thin, noting that members feel increasingly neglected and may take action if the situation remains unaddressed.
Obeng-Himah further highlighted that, for the past two years, CETAG has participated in multiple unproductive discussions, all under the premise that the government was working towards implementing the NLC’s Compulsory Arbitration Award for CETAG members. Yet, these negotiations, he stated, have been unfruitful.
