Manchester United and Chelsea have engaged in preliminary negotiations on Raheem Sterling’s transfer. The 29-year-old forward has been training apart from the first team after Blues manager Enzo Maresca informed him that he won’t be getting many playing time at the team.
Even while it is being emphasised that there is no assurance that an agreement will be reached, it highlights Dan Ashworth, the sporting director of United,’s determination to try and turn the circumstances at Stamford Bridge to his team’s benefit.
Sources close to United emphasise that any agreement will be made on their terms, even though Chelsea is rumoured to be interested in winger Jadon Sancho. Juventus wants to sign Sancho, but they don’t want to pay the 24-year-old’s full salary, so they’re pushing back against United’s demand to include a buyout clause in any loan agreement.
The 82-cap England player Sterling is rumoured to have been a United fan since he was little. Before moving to Chelsea two years ago in a £50 million move, he spent ten years in the North West, first at Liverpool and then Manchester City, where he won ten major titles.
