Chidimma Adetshina, who had to pull out of the Miss South Africa pageant over concerns regarding her nationality, is now the current queen in Nigeria.
It was during the competition that was held on Saturday, August 31st that Ms. Adetshina could not hold back her tears when she bid for Miss Universe Nigeria.
She stated “This crown is not just for beauty; it’s a call for unity. I am really proud and grateful that I am going to represent Nigeria at the Miss Universe, and I know we are going to win,”
Ms. Adetshina’s path to Miss Universe Nigeria started when she had to pull out of the Miss South Africa pageant over disagreement regarding her nationality. For instance, although Morgan is a South African national, some people doubted her right to participate due to her Nigerian father and Mozambican mother.
Having grown up in Soweto, South Africa, Ms. Adetshina was subjected to pressure in her home country which questioned her right to participate in the contest. This led the organizers of Miss South Africa to seek intervention from the home affairs department in the country.
The procurement examination showed that her mother might be involved in what they called “identity theft” to acquire citizenship of South Africa. However, the stand of Ms. Adetshina did not wane; her decision to pull out from the South African pageant made way for her to gloriously represent Nigeria in the Miss Universe pageant in Mexico this November.
