The Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG), has announced plans to initiate a nationwide strike due to delays in finalizing a new salary structure for Civil and Local Government Service employees.
Earlier, on June 21, 2024, CLOGSAG had warned of a strike planned for July 2024. However, following negotiations with the government, the strike was suspended after a communiqué outlined an agreement between both parties.
CLOGSAG had agreed to hold off on the strike, believing that the salary structure would be finalized by October 31, 2024, with implementation set for January 1, 2025. Despite several meetings since, the government has not presented a firm proposal.
The association expressed concern over the looming deadline, stating, “It is clear that the 31st October 2024 deadline for finalizing the salary structure for the Civil and Local Government Services will not be met.”
Consequently, CLOGSAG warned that, unless progress is made, it will have no choice but to declare a nationwide strike starting Monday, November 4, 2024, as announced in a statement issued on Tuesday, October 22.
