The Côte d’Ivoire-Ghana Cocoa Initiative (CIGCI) has reaffirmed its dedication to promoting the interests of its members, emphasizing that cocoa can become a sustainable commodity if stakeholders collaborate effectively. In a press release dated October 2, the CIGCI outlined its mission to provide a unified voice and vision while enhancing policy coordination to benefit the collective well-being of its member countries.
The initiative was established through the strong commitment of Ivorian President SEM Alassane Ouattara and Ghanaian President HE Nana Akufo-Addo, aiming to create a sustainable cocoa sector centered around farmer income. The press release stated, “Together, Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana implemented the Living Income Differential mechanism, urging global cocoa stakeholders to prioritize the economic sustainability of cocoa farmers, which is essential for transforming the sector.”
