The High Court in Accra has granted bail to Bishop Salifu Amoako and Mouha Amoako, the parents of Elrad Amoako, whose actions led to a crash that resulted in two fatalities in East Legon. A third accused, Linda Bempah, described by the prosecution as a sales assistant at Lilo Stitches—owned by the suspect’s brother—was also granted bail.
The Amoakos were arrested on Tuesday and appeared in court on Wednesday, facing charges of permitting an unlicensed person to drive. During police interrogation, they admitted to allowing their child, the suspect driver, to use the car for trips to the gym and elsewhere.
The prosecution revealed in court that Linda Bempah had provided the keys to the Jaguar belonging to Mouha Amoako, the suspect’s mother which led to the Crash.
In court, the defense lawyers argued for bail, citing the accused’s stable residences, gainful employment, community ties, and commitment to attending trial. They noted that the charges against them are classified as a misdemeanor.
While the prosecution did not oppose the bail application, it requested stringent conditions. After considering the arguments, the judge set bail for each accused at GH¢50,000.
