The Minister for the Interior, Henry Quartey, has issued an Executive Instrument extending the curfew hours for the Bawku Municipality and its neighboring communities in the Upper East Region. Effective from Tuesday, October 22, 2024, the new curfew will run daily from 10:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m.
In an official release, the Minister called for calm and urged the chiefs, elders, youth, and residents to prioritize peace despite ongoing challenges. He emphasized the importance of non-violence and urged all stakeholders to work toward maintaining order in the area.
Additionally, the ban on carrying arms, ammunition, and offensive weapons remains in force. The statement warned that anyone caught in possession of such items would face arrest and prosecution.
The government’s decision to impose these measures aims to prevent further escalation of tensions and ensure the safety and security of residents.
