The government, through the Interior Ministry, has announced a curfew in Bawku following renewed unrest linked to the return of Mr. Seidu Abagre, who was enskinned as Bawku Naba in a disputed ceremony in February 2023.
The curfew, effective from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM daily, was implemented on October 28, 2024, after an emergency National Security meeting to address the recent resurgence of violence. According to a government statement, these disturbances began on October 24 upon Mr. Abagre’s arrival in Bawku, resulting in significant casualties and sparking concerns of further escalation beyond the immediate area.
To enforce the curfew and uphold security, law enforcement and military personnel have been deployed throughout Bawku and surrounding areas. The government emphasized its commitment to ensuring the protection of Bawku residents, urging all citizens to respect the curfew and support security efforts.
