Curry injured in Warriors’ defeat against Clippers

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr expressed concern after star player Stephen Curry sustained an injury during their 112-104 loss to the LA Clippers.

The 36-year-old Curry, a two-time MVP, first left the game in the third quarter with a twisted ankle and received treatment. He returned early in the fourth quarter but quickly aggravated the injury, prompting teammate Gary Payton to assist him off the court and to the locker room.

“He’s doing OK. He described it as ‘mild’ or ‘moderate,’” Kerr said. “He’s sprained that ankle plenty of times before, so he doesn’t think it’s too serious, but we’re still concerned.” Curry, who has a long history of ankle injuries, managed to score 18 points before exiting as the Warriors dropped their season opener.

For the Clippers, Ivica Zubac and James Harden led the charge, each scoring 23 points. Zubac notched his second consecutive double-double, recording 17 rebounds and six assists along with his points tally. “Whenever they needed a big play, Zubac seemed to deliver,” Kerr noted.

In other NBA games, the Boston Celtics edged past the Detroit Pistons 124-118, and the San Antonio Spurs narrowly defeated the Houston Rockets 109-106. Meanwhile, the Miami Heat earned a 114-106 win over the Charlotte Hornets, on a night when the team unveiled a statue of franchise icon Dwyane Wade. Wade, now 42, is the Heat’s all-time leading scorer and was instrumental in securing three NBA Championships during his two stints with the team.
