Nana Yaw Barima Barnie, Acting Chief Manager of Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) in Ghana’s Western Region, has revealed that customers in the region owe the company over GHS 23 million for water supplied. This substantial debt, he noted, is hampering the company’s ability to maintain uninterrupted water services.
Speaking in an interview, Mr. Barnie announced that GWCL is launching a revenue mobilization campaign to recover the outstanding debt, which he emphasized is essential for sustaining operations in the region.
Explaining the impact of these unpaid bills, Mr. Barnie pointed out that GWCL relies on customer payments to cover the cost of imported chemicals, pipes, vehicle fuel, equipment maintenance, and staff salaries. To address this, the company is intensifying efforts to collect outstanding payments, including potential disconnections for defaulters.
