Cyber Security Authority issues licenses and accreditations

The Cyber Security Authority (CSA) has officially issued licenses to 18 service providers, accredited 7 establishments, and certified 69 cybersecurity professionals (CPs) during a ceremony held on September 12, 2024. This milestone is a key step in strengthening Ghana’s digital security framework and enhancing its cyber resilience.

In a speech delivered on behalf of the CSA Director-General, Dr. Albert Antwi-Boasiako, the Head of the National Computer Emergency Response Team reiterated the Authority’s dedication to regulating cybersecurity under the Cybersecurity Act, 2020 (Act 1038). He emphasized the crucial role licensing and accreditation play in ensuring that Cybersecurity Service Providers (CSPs), Cybersecurity Establishments (CEs), and Certified Professionals (CPs) operate with integrity and adhere to the necessary legal standards.

The CSA has thus far registered 252 CSPs, 65 CEs, and 1,451 CPs, with many more applications still in process. The Authority reminded those in the cybersecurity sector that obtaining a license or accreditation is just the initial step, stressing the importance of fully complying with all application requirements.

The event also served as a reminder that offering cybersecurity services without proper licensing, or performing professional cybersecurity functions without accreditation, violates Act 1038. The CSA warned that those who fail to comply will face appropriate sanctions.

The CSA is collaborating with various stakeholders to ensure compliance with Act 1038 and has initiated the establishment of an Industry Forum to shape policy and regulatory actions. Additionally, the Authority congratulated all licensees and accredited professionals, encouraging them to actively participate in the upcoming National Cybersecurity Awareness Month (NCSAM) 2024. This initiative aims to raise public awareness, promote best practices, and boost the country’s defenses against cyber threats.

This achievement reaffirms the CSA’s commitment to building a digitally secure and resilient Ghana while highlighting the active role CSPs, CEs, and CPs play in the country’s cybersecurity landscape.
