Wisconsin University wins Cybersecurity Authority’s Industry Partnership Award
Wisconsin International University College, Ghana, has been recognized for its outstanding contributions to the field of cybersecurity. At a recent awards ceremony organized by the Cybersecurity Authority of Ghana (CSA), the university was presented with the prestigious Industry Partnership Award for its ongoing commitment to advancing cybersecurity development and training in the country. The event, attended by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, celebrated the achievements of various stakeholders in Ghana’s cybersecurity ecosystem.
Jacob Fynn, the Chief Operating Officer of Wisconsin International University, accepted the award on behalf of the institution. He credited the recognition to the university’s significant investments in state-of-the-art infrastructure, particularly its cutting-edge Cybersecurity, Digital Forensics, and AI laboratories. These facilities not only serve as training hubs for students but also support commercial cybersecurity initiatives.
Mr. Fynn expressed confidence that the university’s continued success and recent accolades would motivate it to further enhance its contributions to cybersecurity. He emphasized that Wisconsin International University would continue to prioritize the development of its IT and cybersecurity infrastructure, ensuring it remains a leader in the field.
The event also featured remarks from Mrs. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, Ghana’s Minister for Communications, who thanked all the stakeholders for their role in strengthening the nation’s cybersecurity over the past year. Dr. Albert Antwi-Boasiako, the Director-General of the Cybersecurity Authority of Ghana, highlighted the importance of collaboration in navigating the rapidly evolving digital security landscape. He stressed the need for vigilance and proactive measures to combat emerging cyber threats.
The awards ceremony concluded a month-long national campaign to raise awareness about cybersecurity. This year’s theme, “Combatting Misinformation and Disinformation in a Digitally Resilient Democracy: Our Collective Responsibility,” emphasized the importance of safeguarding digital spaces in today’s information age.
Ghana’s cybersecurity efforts have made significant strides since 2017, with the country now recognized as a global leader in the field. The International Telecommunications Union (ITU) recently ranked Ghana in the highest tier in the 5th edition of its Global Cybersecurity Index, further cementing its position as a cybersecurity hub on the world stage.
