Cynthia Morrison, the incumbent Member of Parliament for Agona West, has firmly denied reports claiming she has withdrawn from the upcoming parliamentary election as an Independent Candidate. In an interview with TV3 on October 22, Morrison clarified that she remains committed to running as an Independent in the Agona West Constituency, despite rumors suggesting otherwise after discussions with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) leadership.
Cynthia Morrison is one of four MPs, including three from the NPP, whose seats were declared vacant by Speaker Alban Bagbin following their decisions to run as independent candidates in the December 2024 elections, in violation of Article 97(g)(h) of the Constitution.
In response to the media reports, Cynthia Morrison emphasized, “I am still running as an Independent Candidate in the parliamentary election for Agona West Constituency,” adding that her lawyers are handling the matter of her seat being declared vacant.
