David Apasera disapproves PNC’s 2024 Congress results

The People’s National Convention (PNC) chairman and aspiring flagbearer, David Apasera, has disapproved of the results of the 2024 PNC National Congress, which was conducted to choose the party’s national executives prior to the general elections on December 7. The congress, scheduled for September 7, was postponed multiple times because of an injunction that Apasera’s camp requested.

Bernard Mornah was proclaimed the flagbearer by Electoral Commission officials in spite of the delays.  With 1,138 votes, Mornah had a clear lead over the other candidates. David Apasera disregarded a previous injunction from the Accra High Court and accused the Electoral Commission of holding a biassed and fraudulent election during a news conference in Accra on Sunday.

Mr. Apasara claims that Bernard Mornah and the Electoral Commission planned to sabotage his candidature and made threats to file a lawsuit to contest the election results. In the meantime, Samson Asaki Awingobit, the Executive Secretary of the Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana, has been chosen to serve as the PNC’s National Chairman. In the party’s national delegates congress, which took place throughout all 16 regions, he triumphed over Hajia Hajara. Out of 1,382 votes cast, 893 were cast for Mr. Awingobit and 460 for Hajia Hajara with 29 rejected ballots.
