GTA launches “December in GH” – 64 Events endorsed

In an effort to promote tourism and coordinate a number of events for the holiday seasons of Christmas and New Year, the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has started the sixth edition of the “December in GH” project.  Last Friday, in the Christiansborg Castle Gardens in Accra, the Beyond The Return Secretariat and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture collaborated to host the launch.

Out of the 95 entries planned to take place between November of this year and January of 2025, the GTA has officially approved 64 of them thus far in cooperation with other event planners. In the meantime, new entries can still be submitted to the Beyond The Return Secretariat until September 16 for assessment. The entire list of approved events will be revealed in October of this year. Additionally, it seeks to realise Ghana’s potential as the continent’s top leisure destination, uniting the local Ghanaian population with the African diaspora around the world.

African Food Festival; Diaspora in Ghana Brunch; Kids in Tourism Festival; Taste of Ghana 5.0; Get Kojo Antwified; Potomanto Festival; Afro Colour Walk; Betom Home Coming; Tadifest; Tema Masquerades Carnival; Detty Rave; Afrofuture; Awudome Carnival; The African Festival; Family Day Out; Russia I Come From; Afropopera 2024; Little Havana 24; and Clean Ghana Beach Festival are a few of the approved events that are a part of the ‘December in GH’ festival

The project, according to Chief Executive Officer Akwasi Agyeman, has significantly impacted the nation’s tourism and economic sectors throughout time. He went on to say that around 1.3 million people were predicted to attend the festival this year, which was 150,000 more than the previous year.

He continued by saying that because of the campaign’s feasibility and energy, guests’ average stays during the holiday season have increased from 14 to 17 days, and hotel occupancy has reached record highs of 99.6%. He emphasised that logistics, security, locations, and health and safety were vital considerations for the event’s success to event organisers planning to submit fresh entries.
