The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has announced a postponement of the inaugural direct flight from London Gatwick to Kumasi Prempeh I International Airport, originally planned for December 3, 2024.
In a press statement, GACL attributed the delay to the short notice for the launch and confirmed that the flight would now take place later this week.
The new service, introduced in partnership with Ethiopian Airlines, is a historic step in Ghana’s aviation sector. Kumasi will become the destination for the country’s first direct international flight outside the capital, Accra.
While the revised date for the inaugural flight has not been confirmed, GACL assured the public that the second flight in the schedule, set for December 15, 2024, will operate as planned.
This initiative underscores GACL’s commitment to enhancing travel options and promoting regional growth. The direct service is anticipated to boost tourism, trade, and investment in Kumasi and its surrounding areas.
Travelers and stakeholders are encouraged to monitor GACL’s official platforms for updates and further announcements.
