NHIA Begins Disbursing of GH¢402 Million to Healthcare Facilities

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has begun disbursing an additional GH¢402 million to healthcare facilities across Ghana. This payment, which covers claims submitted and vetted for June and July 2024, aligns with the NHIA’s three-month reimbursement schedule.

Public health facilities will receive the largest portion, totaling GH¢223.9 million, or 56.03% of the disbursement. Private health facilities will be allocated GH¢106.5 million, while quasi-public and mission health facilities will also receive significant funds. With this latest Disbursing, the NHIA has allocated a total of GH¢800 million in recent months to support healthcare providers and maintain the sustainability of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

In previous months, the NHIA has made substantial payments to settle outstanding claims, including GH¢151 million in August 2024 for claims from March and April 2024, GH¢135.6 million in July for claims up to February 2024, and GH¢170.8 million in April for January and February claims. A payment of GH¢180 million in March 2024 covered claims up to December 2023, while earlier in February 2024, GH¢130.2 million was disbursed to 4,850 healthcare providers for October 2023 claims.

Dr. DaCosta Aboagye, Chief Executive of the NHIA, emphasized the Authority’s dedication to strengthening Ghana’s healthcare system, ensuring timely payments, and delivering quality services to NHIS subscribers.
