The Head of the Local Government Service, Dr. Nana Ato Arthur, has explained the discussions regarding the significance of obtaining district assembly approval before private citizens can repair their own roads. He clarified that just because someone has the resources to privately build, say, unbuilt roads in their community, it doesn’t mean they have the right to do so. In an interview, he stated that the process for building roads is the same as the process for land usage.
In response to a recent news, Dr. Nana Ato Arthur stated that Nana Addo Boaman, the Chief of Nahinso in the Ashanti Region, had been arrested by the Asokwa Municipal Assembly for doing road construction without official authorization. This came after the chief said that, in vain, he had pleaded with the authorities on multiple occasions to rectify the bad road conditions that, in his opinion, were causing frequent flooding in his region.
