Commercial road transport drivers and other regulated organizations have been given a seven-month deadline by the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) to register with the organization or risk facing harsh penalties. Additionally, by March 31, 2025, the government has ordered floating vehicle owners to register their business, join a transport union, or both in order to do lawful business. In an interview with the Daily Graphic, NRSA Director-General David Osafo Adonteng stated that the action was taken in accordance with the National Road Safety Regulations, 2022 (LI 2468). He emphasized that the NRSA was especially worried about the actions of floating drivers, who were unregulated and challenging to keep an eye on because they were not members of any union.
To make sure they follow the law, L.I. 2468 mandates that the NRSA maintain a registry of all organizations offering road transport and related services. Commercial road transport drivers, ride-hailing services, transport departments and units of ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs), transport departments and units of private companies, institutional bus service providers, and tire service centers are a few of the regulated entities as listed in L. I 2468.Regulation 92 of L. I 2468 states: “An entity or organisation which before the coming into force of these regulations operated a road transport service for commercial purpose shall, within two years of the coming into force of these regulations, comply with these regulations.”
By registering, the transport entities will be able to be uniquely identified by the NRSA and granted an operating license. The NRSA Director-General stated that the organization has been interacting with all parties involved in the road safety industry, especially the regulated entities, to emphasize the necessity of registering with the authority, since L. I. 2468 became operative on March 30, 2025.
