Your tithes barely cover electricity bills – Duncan-Williams to congregation

Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, the General Overseer of Action Chapel International Ministry, has disclosed that the church’s tithes and offerings fall short of covering even basic operational expenses, such as electricity bills.

In a candid message to his congregation, the renowned preacher clarified that the church’s financial contributions are not what sustain his personal lifestyle or the ministry’s day-to-day operations. He emphasized that he does not depend on tithes and offerings for his livelihood, as he is involved in multiple business ventures both locally and internationally.

“I engage in various activities outside of preaching. When you look at me, don’t assume it’s your tithing that sustains me. Tithes and offerings don’t even cover our electricity bills. I don’t usually talk about these things, but the truth is, I have investments and businesses, both here and abroad, which provide my financial security,” Duncan-Williams stated.

He also made it clear that he takes tithing seriously in his own life, often reminding his office to deduct his tithe from his income before he even touches the money. “I am a consistent tithe payer, and I pay more than most of you. I don’t play when it comes to matters of God,” he added.

Archbishop Duncan-Williams also took the opportunity to criticize some ministers of the gospel who, according to him, have become too successful to tithe. He noted that many preachers, after gaining wealth and influence, no longer feel the need to follow the practice. “There are preachers who don’t tithe because they think they are too big. They become self-appointed men of God and don’t feel the need to honor the scriptures anymore,” he said.

The topic of tithing continues to be a controversial issue among Christians, with differing opinions on its relevance. This debate was recently reignited after Nigerian pastor, Enoch Adeboye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, apologized for telling his congregation that failing to pay tithes could jeopardize their chances of going to heaven.
