A temporary official with the Electoral Commission (EC) was arrested on Monday, December 2, 2024, during the Special Voting exercise in Bimbilla, Northern Region, after being accused of photographing his ballot.
The individual, identified as Gerti Justice, was detained following concerns raised by National Democratic Congress (NDC) agents present at the polling station. According to reports from Accra-based ChannelOne TV, Justice allegedly took a photo of his ballot, which prompted an immediate response from the NDC representatives.
Atta Napari Suale, the parliamentary candidate for the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), confirmed that Justice admitted to the act during questioning by the police. Following deliberations, it was agreed that Justice would be removed from the list of election officials. While Justice was eventually released, the NDC insisted that he should face legal consequences for his actions.
In a related incident, a similar situation occurred at Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency, where a person was arrested for attempting to photograph their ballot. Additionally, an altercation broke out between a voter and independent candidate Abdul Rauf Abugri Mumuni. The NDC also raised alarms about other issues in the Ayawaso Central constituency during the Special Voting exercise.
