EC forms committee to vet nomination forms of presidential aspirants

The Electoral Commission (EC) has assembled a specialized team to review the nomination forms submitted by presidential aspirants to ensure they meet the required standards.

Speaking at the submission of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s forms, EC Chairperson Jean Adukwei Mensa explained that candidates now have five days, starting from Monday, September 9, to file their forms.

This is a departure from the previous practice, which allowed just two days for submission. The extended period is aimed at giving aspirants time to correct any errors that may be identified on their forms.

Madam Mensa reassured the public that the upcoming general elections will be conducted in a peaceful, transparent, and fair manner.

After receiving the forms, she said “We have no doubt that the process will be transparent, fair, and peaceful.”

She added, “Indeed this is the first time a sitting Vice President has personally presented his nomination forms to the EC.”

Dr Bawumia for his part said the filing of forms was historic to him.

“For me, it is a very historic opportunity to submit these forms for the first time as a presidential candidate. I want to pray for God’s blessings for our dear country Ghana,” he said after filing.

Adukwei Mensa assured that the process of filing and auditing the presidential nomination forms presented by the aspirants will be fair and transparent.
