The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) Managing Director, Samuel Dubik Mahama has tendered an apology to the various customers that have been adversely affected by the recent ‘dumsorpower’ outages across the various regions of Ghana.
In an interview with the Channel One TV, Mr. Mahama learnt the CNBC held the power interruption disruptions and expounded to the challenges that the ECG has faced while implementing the load-shedding timetable the firm ought to have issue to assist business prepare. He associated the power disruptions to generation problems that interfered with the steady supply of power to consumers.
To the customers, Mr. Mahama was swift to clarify that ECG is on the process of ensuring that these challenges are worked on to help enhance service delivery. He also thanked the Independent Power Producers (IPPs) for their efficiency in the early finishing of annual maintenance services, which help to restore calm.
“During that period, several power plants had to shut down for routine maintenance. I must take this opportunity to thank all the IPPs who experienced issues during that time—the speed with which they brought in the necessary experts to resolve the problems was remarkable.
“For instance, a plant like CEN Power had a gas valve issue. You do not expect me to run a power plant when a gas valve is not functioning properly. That could mean destroying an asset worth hundreds of millions of dollars,” he explained.
